100 Things to Draw
I didn’t start on January first, but I did decide that I wanted to fill a sketchbook (100+ pages) with drawings this year. My goal is to do one a day for at least 100 days. I know that by the end of 100 days of drawing, I will have two things: an established practice of drawing, and 100 days worth of practice under my belt which will make my art so much better! I started a list of things I wanted to draw/paint/sketch so that I wouldn’t have to waste any time each day DECIDING* what to do.
This colorful bookshelf got turned into a print!
Speaking of wasting time — after two days of being spread out on my kitchen table and then having to clean up everything so we could eat dinner… I decided I needed a dedicated spot to work. I cleared out a tiny nook on my desk where I can keep my watercolors, markers, and pencils ready for me at any time. It helps me jump right in even if I know I only have 10/15 minutes to work.
If you want some inspiration or want to join me for this very chill 100 day challenge, I would love for you to use my list too! You can download it right HERE. I’d love to see what you make!
*If you’re looking for a great and quick read - I highly recommend the Lazy Genius Way. In it, one of her top tricks is to “decide once” and then you don’t have to think about that decision again. For example, decide once what your Sunday night dinner will be, or what you’re getting your kid’s teachers as a Christmas gift. Decide once and go with it. Same idea applied with my drawings! I decided and now my time is freed up to do other things instead of spending it deciding.
I’m using a mix of markers, pens, watercolor, and sometimes even acrylic. Just having fun trying new things. If you’re hoping to do a lot of watercolor, it would be wise to get a sketchbook appropriate for it. These pages are going to be veryyy wrinkly by the end of my little experiment.
