an ode to peonies

Peonies are an obvious favorite to so many people. Except for it feeling hard to get that pronunciation just right, there’s not much to dislike about them. Like to you really emphasize that “o” or not? They’re full, they’re elegant, and they come in a beautiful variety of colors.

My husband and I got engaged on December 24, 2012 and I was dead-set on having a May wedding. Not because I thought I’d be great to hear every wedding vendor say, “oh this May? that’s really soon” or because I wanted to have my birthday, future mother’s days AND my wedding anniversary in the same month, but all because of peonies.

I look so forward to their blooms each and every year. I’ve tried for the past several years to grow some of my own, but with no success… YET! Don’t you worry. I’ll keep trying. Until then, I’ll draw them and keep supporting my local nurseries and Trader Joes.
